CS-15 Hiking on the Meili Snow Mountain to base camp ( 13D12N )

Day1: Kunming You will be met at the Kunming airport. At 1,890m (5,670 ft) above sea level, Kunming is known as the city of "Eternal Spring" as it enjoys cool, spring-like temperatures at even the height of summer. Despite being the capital and business center of Yunnan province, Kunming has a laid-back atmosphere and is a good place to explore on foot. Nearby your hotel is Green Lake, a charming area surrounded by little teahouses and cafes, and small boutiques. You????ll sample local Yunnan specialties for dinner, and there will be a short presentation by the Nature Conservancy giving background information on the area you are about to explore.


Day2: Zhongdian We will take an early flight to Zhongdian, a small town (zhongxin town is the capital of Deqin Prefecture) on the Tibetan Plateau. At 3,300 m (10,000 ft) above sea level, Zhongdian is much cooler than Kunming. We will start driving northwest towards Mt. Kawagebo. On the way, we will stop at Songzanlin Monastery (the largest monastery in Yunnan) and Dongzulin Temple. On the way to Mt. Kawagebo we will pass over Baima Snow Mountain. At 4,200 m (12,600 ft), it is one of the most important bio-diversity sites for the Great Rivers Project sponsored by the Nature Conservancy. We will arrive at the county of Deqin (3,500 m/10,500 ft) late in the evening.stay in Meili hotel

Day3??Deqin -mingyong In the morning, we????ll go to market to buy some vegetables, at noon, depart for mingyong by automobile (we????ll have a sighting of meili snow mountain landscape, lancing river gorge, the right of mingyong glaciers) along the route; we will spend the night in The Ice Valley Mountain Villa or encamping.

Day4??Mingyong Glacier Weather permitting, we????ll wake up to a clear view of the Mt. Kawagebo .go hiking and crossing the left side of mingyong glaciers(modern glacier with exceptionally seriors low latitude and low elevation),stay in a village lodge or encamping.

Day5??Mingyong - yubeng By car from mingyong to xidang,have a rest then go hiking to yubeng (have a sighting of virgin forest ,enjoying sight of miancimu,jiawarenan,yuanshibu of 13 lesser peaks of meili snow mountain, Yubeng is rarely visited by outsiders. The villagers???? timeless way of life - herding yak, plowing the fields and fetching water from the nearby glacier stream - has changed little over the centuries. Encamping or sleeping in a village lodge (yubeng inn).

Day6: Yubeng-base camp Weather permitting, we????ll wake up to a clear view of the Mt. Kawagebo again.go hiking from yubeng to xiaonong base camp, go crossing the virgin forest, enjoying sight of ice-cape, ice-lake and etc, encamping in base camp.

Day7??Base camp Go hiking from the base camp to the pass of the base camp, returning to the base camp, encamping.

Day8??Base camp Go hiking from the base camp to yisehuo pass, enjoying sight of Mian????cimu, jia????waren????an, the source of yubeng god waterfall, encamping.

Day9??Yubeng Return to the yubeng, is located at the foot of peak kagebo of meili snow mountain, it is "the land of peach blossoms alienated from the world" barely accessible by car along precipitous mountain roads, the scenery is spectacular and unique. Visit the god waterfall (flowing down from peak of Kawagebo, which radiates as a holy place attracting many Tibetans, pilgrims and palmers on pilgrimage, stay in yubeng too.

Day10??Niru Trekking from yubeng, go crossing the virgin forest or gully to Niru (a scenic spot appreciate for exploration as it includes plateau lakes, pasture on high mountains, virgin forests and high mountain flowers), encamping.

Day11:Deqin Stride crossing the Niru bridge, enjoying the sight of lancing river gorge to jiabi, meet our automobile and return to Deqin ,stay in meili hotel in Deqin.

Day12??Deqin-zhongdian We will spend the morning visiting a local Tibetan school. Started and run by an illiterate Tibetan entrepreneur, Ah Niu, the school????s aim is to preserve Tibetan culture and to pass its traditions on to the next generation. We will take the rest of the day to drive back to Zhongdian.

Day13:Zhongdian Fly back Kunming,end the trip.
