The March Fair is the grandest market in western Yunnan, and also functions as cultural festive for the local people. Traders with all kinds of goods gather from all corners of the Dali prefecture during the festival. The horsemen demonstrate their excellent horsemanship during the horse race. The folk actors play with dragons, lions and cranes made from bamboo, paper and silks. People gather to commemorate the public savior - Guanyin (the Buddhist Goddess of Mercy).
The old town of Dali was the capital of the Nanzhao Kingdom 1,000 years ago. In ancient times it was the political, economic and cultural center of Yunnan. It is also important for culture and commodities exchange with southeast Asian countries. The government of Dali confirms the March Fair as the Nationality Festival in 1990.
Day 1 Meet your tour guide and begin sightseeing in the Western Hills and the Bamboo Temple. The evening ends with and overnight stay in Kunming.
Day 2 Fly to Dali to take part in the opening ceremony of the March Fair, where you will enjoy the performance of horse racing. You will then visit the Three-pagodas. Overnight in Dali.
Day 3 The tour starts with a boat ride in Erhai Lake, where you can enjoy the Bai Nationality Three- course- tea and folk dance. Special Bai food such as sour and spicy fish will be served during lunch. In the afternoon, you will have the chance to visit the Butterfly Spring, the local market,batik handicraft workshops and Bai housing architecture. Overnight in Dali.
Day 4 The tour starts with a long but interesting drive northwards to Lijiang. There??s so much to see on this tour: Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, Ten Thousand Camellias in Yufeng Monastery, the Baisha Mural and Naxi ancient music. Overnight in Lijiang
Day 5 Visit to Lijiang Naxi Nationality Dongba Culture Mmuseum. Fly to Kunming, where you will stay overnight.
Day 6 One full day in which to explore the Stone Forest in Shilin. Overnight in Kunming
Day 7 Wander through the Bird and Flower Market. This ends the tour. ?? |
