The First-aid Center of Nanning was established in September of 1986. In October of the same year, 120 first-aid telephone calling service was opened as well. It is one of the first units to have such service. In 1987, the center had 26 staff including 15 of medical professionals, equipped with four ambulances. Nanning and its rural counties altogether have a population of 2.8 million rely upon the first-aid Center. The Center's duty area covers 10,029 square kilometers. It has also established exchange and cooperation with neighboring Ningming, Fusui, Shanglin, Long'an, Hengxian counties and Qinzhou City. The average rounds of each day during 1987 to 1992 reached 15 to 16 times.
With the attention and support of the municipal government, the First-aid center has been continually expanded and its hardware improved since 1992. the center now has 49 full-time staff with 25 medical professionals including 5 vice-director physicians, 8 doctors, 7 head paramedics, 3 nurses, 1 chemist, and 8 drivers. Advanced equipment has been purchased and three more ambulances were added. In the past 10 years, the center has responded to 27,479 calls. It has played a vital role in providing first aid for those suffered from serious accidents in recent years, successfully saving the lives of over 500 persons, obtaining high praise from the society.
