The Sculpture Street of Chinese Civilization
The Sculpture Street of Chinese Civilization was built along the seashore of Qianhai, extending its way from Badaguan (Eight Great Passes) on the Sixth Road of Taiping Cape to Mount Laoshan and Shilaoren National Holiday Resort. It is planned to set up 15 gardens of sculptures along the street, which are harmonious with the natural scenery of the seashore as well as the architecture layout of the city. It boasts strong artistic appeal and in-depth meanings, and is a full demonstration of Qingdao's long history and splendid culture.
Former Residence of Laoshe
Laoshe is the only writer who was honored as "the People's Artist" by the central government after liberation. Located at #12 Huangxian Road, Qingdao, the Former Residence of Laoshe is where he wrote his famous long novel The Rickshaw-Xiangzi, the novella Doctor Wen, and several other short stories. In 1984, in order to commemorate him, Qingdao Municipal Government listed his former residence as one of the key cultural relics under special protection. From then on, it has attracted a lot of tourists and researchers in literature.
Yiduo Building
Located in the northeast part of the Ocean University of Qingdao, Yiduo Building was erected to commemorate Wen Yiduo, a famous scholar, poet and democrat. The two-storied building with red tiles and yellow wall is the former residence of Wen Yiduo, which has been set as "Wen Yiduo's Former Residence Exhibition Hall", where his works and other mementos are on display. In front of the building stands a sculpture of Mr. Wen Yiduo, engraved with the inscription written by his student Zang Kejia. It has attracted a lot of tourists since its opening.
Former Residence of Kang Youwei
Kang Youwei was one of the main leaders of "Wuxu Reform" in China's modern history. Mao Tsetung once remarked him as "the one who sought for truth from the western world before the birth of the Chinese Communist Party". His former residence named "Tianyou Garden" is located in #5 Fushan Road, Qingdao, which has now become "Memorial Hall of Kang Youwei". The location of Dang Youwei's Tomb is described as "on the edge of green forest, at the foot of the mountain, over the roaring wave of the sea, overwhelmed by fragrance of flowers and leaves". The inscription was done by his student Liu Haisu. Visitors come in an endless stream.
Located in the Xinhao Hill Park, the Guesthouse was built in 1903, following the style of the typical German ancient castles. It covers an area of 40,000m2 and is a four, storied building with a height of 30m. The stone-made exterior wall looks very gracious, and the interior decoration and furniture are magnificent. It used to be the residence of the German Governor, so it is called "Former Governor's Building". Many Chinese Leaders have once lived there.
Old City Hall
Built in the 1923, the Former Governor's Office Building lies on the seaside of Qianhai, facing the Qianhai Bay and with Guanhai Hill to its north. It follows the style of European public construction in the 19th century. With a steel frame, the building was built with granite and stones, its roof covered by red tubular tiles. It's a concave-shaped building with 23 granite flights of steps in front of it. The whole building looks solemn, dignified and beautiful.
In 1949 when Qingdao was liberated, it became the office building for the People's Government of Qingdao. Later the government office moved to the east part of the city and this is why it's call "the Old City Hall". Now it serves as the office building for the Standing Committee of Qingdao People's Congress and Qingdao Political Consultative Conference.
