Located in the ancient Zhouzhuang Village, the Double Bridges consist of an arch bridge and an ordinary stone bridge. It was named also as "Key Bridge" for its key-like shape. First built in Wanli Period of Ming Dynasty, the Double Bridges were exquisitely and uniquely designed. In 1984, a young painter named Chen Yifei made an oil painting for the bridge. Later the painting was staged in an art show in the United States, where an American named Harmon purchased it and sent it to Mr. Deng Xiao-ping as a gift. That's when the Double Bridges begin to attract worldwide attention. In 1985, it was chosen by the United Nations as the design for the first day cover of its com me rating envelope. Since then, the Double Bridges in Zhouzhuang Village have become known to the world.
