Garden of Beans was constructed in 1913. it sits on the southern tip of Gulangyu Island in front of the Crag of Sunlight and faces the great sea. To the east of the Garden is the Garden of Sea Watch (Guanhai Lou), a resort. Looking into the west, the bathing beach at the back of Gangzai harbor is within sight. The Garden was previously a private villa belonging to a famous squire named Lin Er Jia, but was changed into a park in 1955. it consists of Garden of Sea (Canghaiyuan) and Garden of Subordinate Hill (Bushanyuan), each including five scenes. Within the Garden there are Forty-four Bridges winding as waves layer upon layer. The artificial hills named "Twelve Caves under the Sky" (Shierdongtian) built around the hill link each other in a tortuous way and spiral up and down the hill, which form a particularly fascinating sight. The scenes in the Garden complement each other finely and distribute orderly to form an integral whole. The stillness of the tastefully fumished courtyards and the movements of splashing waves and hovering seagulls bring out the best in each other. Once entering the garden, you will find yourself reluctant to leave.
