An awards ceremony in honor of the 'Top 10 China Tourist Cities' was held Tuesday in Beijing's Great Hall of the People, with the city of Harbin topping the list after a vote by "global netizens".
The nine other cities are Hangzhou in Zhejiang Province, Huangshan in Anhui, Jinan in Shandong, Kashgar in Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, Lijiang in Yunnan Province, Luoyang in Henan, Sanya in Hainan, Suzhou in Jiangsu and Xi'an in Shaanxi.
The criteria for the top 10 tourist cities referred to "city landscape, safe and livable environment, friendly and open urban living conditions and perfect tourism facilities".
The selection process was hosted by CRI online under the supervision of the China National Press Office and the China National Tourism Administration, and lasted for seven months from April 12, with more than 80 Chinese cities taking part.
A total of 31 overseas media organizations covered the selection process in 43 languages, and more than 5 million overseas netizens voted, contributing 92 percent of the total votes.
Harbin has ranked No. 1 of the top 10 China tourist cities since the annual International Ice and Snow Festival first started to be held there.
