The Tourist Area of Lingyan, located at the northwestern foot of Taishan Mountain, is a traveling and sightseeing area which has the Longyan Temple as the center. It is surrounded by mountains and has a valley in the middle, where the peaks and ridges rise one after another, with rocks as big as walls, splashing waterfalls, swinging streams, green pines and cypresses, towering temples, grouped steles and tablets, and many famous sites, so it is praised that "the miraculous rocks are the curious spectacles of the world, which are incomparable to the mountains in the south of the Yangtze River". If the tourists arrive here, they will feel that they have reached the fairyland. The main spectacles of Lingyan Tourist Area include Lingyan Mountain, Lingyan Shengjing Archway, Shili Pine, Huangmao Hill, Chongxing Bridge, Lingyan Temple, Mutalin Tombs, Pizhi tower, Ganlu Spring, Kegong Stone Bed, White-cloud Cave, witness Hall, Yixiantian, Langgong Stone and Chaohe Rock, etc.
Lingyan Temple
Lingyan Temple is located at the northwestern foot of Taishan Mountain, surrounded by mountains, and set off by pines and cypresses. Lingyan Temple was built by Langgong who was an eminent monk in the Eastern Jin Dynasty, and was rebuilt by the monk named Hui Chong in Tang Dynasty, and also developed through the later years. Inside the temple, the ancient steles stand in great numbers, the halls are imposing, and incense smoke curls up, so it has a reputation as "the first of the Four-Extremes in the area". Inside the Thousand-Buddha Hall, the colorful statues of the arhats in Song Dynasty are as natural as though they were living, which are called "the most famous statue in the world".
