The government of Yingkou in Northeast China's Liaoning province came to Beijing recently to promote its image as an emerging tourism destination and development region. Gao Zuoping, deputy mayor of Yingkou, and district head Wang Yandong attended the meeting along with representatives from local businesses, and travel agencies.
Set up in 1984, the economic and technology development region has a population of half a million in an area of 268 sq km.
Yingkou has northeastern China's second largest harbor, which is expected to channel 200 million tons of freight over the next year. Yingkou airport is set to open and an expressway will be finished within 12 months, making Harbin reachable in two hours, and Shenyang and Dalian in just half an hour. A steel factory is under construction and an electricity plant is the biggest in the region.
The city has several famous scenic spots, including Wan'ershan Mountains and Yueyawan Coast Resort.
