Day 1/2 Arrive in Kunming. Visit the beautiful and tranquil Bamboo Temple just outside Kunming which is famous for its 500 life sized Arhats or Disciples of Buddha, next Stone Forest. Welcome dinner. 2 N in Kunming.
Days 3/6 Drive to Dali, Lijiang, Tiger Leaping Gorge and Shangri-la enjoying the cultural and geographical diversity while acclimatizing in preparation for the spectacular 4 wheel drive through the Eastern Himalayas to Lhasa. 1 N in Dali, 2 N in Lijiang, 1 N in Shangri-la.
Day 7 Shangri-la/Deqin (190 km, 6-7 hrs). Drive past the Jinsha river (as the Yangtze is known here), visit the Dongzhulin Monastery and drive over the 4250 meter Baimang Snow Mountain Pass. 1 N in Deqin.
Day 8 Deqin/Mangkang (230km, 9-10 hrs). Departing Deqin, we travel along the north of Mekong River valley into Tibet. See the peaks of Meili Mountain range including Kawagebo Peak (6,740m/22,113ft) on a good day. 1 N in Mangkang.
Day 9 Mangkan/Basu (330km, 8 hrs). Travel through Tibetan peaks and valleys and over 2 mountain passes of 4,000-5,000m. 1 N in Basu.
Day 10 Basu/Bomi (250km, 8 hrs). Drive along the Poto-chu Valley at Tramog (2743m/8999ft), located deep in the thickly forested gorge of Parlung Tsangpo with glacial waterfalls streaming from the mountain sides. It is one of the most stunning drives in China. 1 N in Bome.
Day 11 Bome/Bayi (250km, 9 hrs). Subject to weather will have an unobstructed view of the majestic Nam Jiabawa peak. At 7,755 meters, the highest peak in eastern Tibet. After a long 9 hrs drive, we will arrive in Bayi, a large Tibetan town. 1 N in Bayi.
Day 12 Bayi/Basongcuo (125km, 7 hrs). Today we see the important Red Sect Buddhist Buchu Monastery and Lamaling Temple in Nyingchi. Finally arrive at the Basongcuo Lake. 1 N in Basongcuo.
Day 13 Basongcuo/Lhasa (350km, 11 hrs). Leaving the lake and arrive at Gongbujiangda on time for lunch, explore the nearby glacier. 3 N in Lhasa.
Days 14/15 Two full days soaking up atmospheric Lhasa with its palaces, monastries, gardens and markets. See Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple, the intriguing Barkhor Street Bazaar, the famous Buddhist monasteries of Drepung and Sera and the former Dalai Lama's summer palace.
Day 16 Drive to Shigatse to visit the awesome Tashilhunpo Monastery built in 1447 by the 1st Dalai Lama. On the way explore Gyangtse Dzong Fortress, centre of a battle between British and Tibetan forces in 1904. Farewell dinner. 1 N in Shigatse.
Day 17 Return to Lhasa for free time. 1 N in Lhasa.
Day 18 Leave for home,end service.
