Wugong Temple is 5km southeast to the urban area of
Haikou. It consists of a group of old buildings which are Wugong Temple, Sugong Temple, Guanjia Hall, Xuepu Hall, Living Room of Wugong, Qiongyuan Park and so on. We usually call these buildings Wugong Temple. The temple, as the main part of the complex, was built during Wanli Period in Ming Dynasty (1573-1619). It is a two-storied wooden building, 9m in height. It is called "the No.1 Tower in Hainan". The temple is built in commemoration of Li Deyu, Li Gang, Li Guang, Zhao Ding and Hu Quan, the five famous officials in history, who were relegated to Hainan in Tang and Song Dynasties. The temple has a history of over 100 years. With elegant environment of dark green trees, famous flowers on each side of the road, and classical buildings, it is habitually referred to as "Wonderful Scenery in Qiong Tai".
In Sugong Temple, which is next to Wugong Temple, a lot of poem stelae of Su Dongpo are displayed. There are archway, arch bridge, and lotus pond and wind pavilion in front of the temple. Qiongyuan Park, covering an area of 10mu, is in the east of the temple. In Qiongyuan Park are Fusu Spring, Suquan Pavilion,
Xianyou Cave and some other scenery.
Wugong Displaying Hall, covering an area of 4200sq m, is opposite to Wugong Temple from the bridge. In the hall, there are some exhibits, such as site or relics of famous persons in the history of Hainan, modern and contemporary history of Hainan, the art and craft of butterfly, photos, fine arts and so on all the year.
