The Museum of the Tianshan Tomb of the Han Dynasty is located in the eastern part of the state-level scenery of Shugang Ridge-Slender West Lake, bordering the ancient
Yangzhou City in Tang Dynasty in the west while adjoining the Tiefo Temple in the east, facing Bijia Mountain in the south and neighboring the Tomb of Emperor Yang of the Sui Dynasty and Ruanyuan Tomb in the north.
With advantageous geographical conditions, it is a shining star among numerous scenic spots in Yangzhou.
Covering an area of 27,000 square meters, it was built by imitating buildings in the Han-Dynasty style on the rising and falling land, surrounded by dense forests.
Within the museum, the tombs of Emperor Liu Xu, the first generation tombs for the emperors of the Mid-Western Han Dynasty (206BC-24AD) are displayed there.
The two tombs were built in a high-profile funeral form available for an emperor, rated as rare ones with a complicated structure, well preserved compared with those similar types found in the country.
Taking Liu Xu's tomb (No.1 Tomb) for example. It covers an area of more than 230 square meters. Built with nanmu, the structural components were connected with mort ices and ten on joints without using any nail. The refined designs and its elaborate workmanship are superb.
In addition, the museum has a hall displaying objects and documents from Han Dynasty Yangzhou, and offers some recreational activities such as bomb rack kettle, crossbow shooting and tea drinking of Han-Dynasty style.
