Daming Temple, on the top of the Shugang Hill in the northwestern suburbs of Yangzhou, began to be built in the 5th century when Emperor Song Xiaowu of the Southern Dynasty (420-589) reigned.
With a history of more than 1,500 years, it is one of the famous temples in Yangzhou. The temple also includes the Pingshan Hall built in memory of the great politician and writer Ou Yangxiu of the Northern Song Dynasty, the West Part of the Imperial Garden often visited by Emperor Qianlong and the Jianzhen Memorial Hall, which was built in memory of Jianzhen, a senior monk of the Tang Dynasty, who once made six trips to Japan with a result of remarkable achievements in promoting the Sino-Japanese cultural exchanges.
It is one of the typical gardens in a temple style in China.
