The Wenchang Pavilion, at the center of Wenchang Road, was built during the Ming Dynasty. Because it is close to an institute of higher learning in Yangzhou, it was named Wenchang, meaning prosperous civilization.
In the downtown Yangzhou, the scenes of the brisk market and the brilliantly illuminated streets at night with people and cars coming and going fully show the prosperity of Yangzhou, and Wenchang Pavilion has already become a symlot of Yangzhou.
